The Gideon’s Promise mentoring program is a twelve month one-to-one mentoring model designed to provide support for the newest members of the Gideon’s Promise Community. Members of the CORE 101 program receive dedicated mentoring support from CORE 101 alumni who are interested in assisting public defenders, with less than three years of experience, in meeting their professional goals. The Gideon’s Promise mentoring model is designed to pair mentors and mentees in a mutually beneficial relationship that will accomplish the following for both the mentee and mentor:
- Foster the development of legal knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Increased knowledge of professional ethics.
- Cultivate a Client – Centered representation to public defense.
- Promote collegial relationships amongst public defenders.
- Improve professional judgement.
- Provide guidance and support through shared experiences.
- Encourage the use of best practices and highest ideals in the pursuit of outstanding public defense.
- Maintain a healthy life and work balance.
